I wasn’t having a good tournament, and as the saying goes, “when it rains it pours”. In round four I was paired against Henry Louie, a 1300-rated player that had put up some stiff resistance with his opponents in previous rounds. The moral of the story is this – never underestimate that playing strength of your opponent, no matter what his rating is.
I will admit that I thought I was in store for a quick victory, but Henry had something to say about that.
This game was a reminder of how I can sometimes be my own worst enemy. While Henry deserves full credit for playing well, there is no excuse for my lackluster performance. I made wild assumptions that compromised my position and I was lucky to get a draw.
